Homeopathy: Menopause treatment to relieve symptoms naturally

Why use homeopathic menopause relief?

Many women choose to take a more natural approach to deal with their menopause symptoms, or use natural therapies as part of a combined management package. There’s a range of complementary therapy options to call on, including homeopathy.

For those who choose not to take the more conventional medical route, or who wish to avoid HRT - whether down to their own personal philosophy or if they’re unable to take it due to their health history, or because it doesn't agree with them - homoeopathy may help!

There’s a common misconception that homoeopathy involves herbs and supplements but it’s quite different.

Homeopathic remedies for menopause

Whilst homoeopathy uses natural substances derived from plants, minerals and animals, these substances are ‘potentised’. More commonly called remedies, they can be prescribed as liquids or pills with an action similar in principle to vaccination - stimulating your innate self-healing mechanism to resolve your menopause symptoms.

Treatment may involve a series of consultations resulting in a customise homoeopathic prescription to fit specific symptoms, the root cause of a particular health concern, and tailored to each individual’s health.

As the second most widely used system of medicine used globally.

What is homoeopathy?

Homeopathy, is a complementary medicine that utilises the principles of ‘Similars’ or ‘Like Cures Like’, using very small doses of non-toxic substances.

Homeopathic treatment for menopause is directed at the whole person. Using the Law of Similars, homeopaths match the symptoms of the patient to the symptoms produced by a substance when given to a healthy person.

Homeopathy is…

  • Natural and non-toxic, with no side-effects

  • Treatment for physical, mental & emotional illnesses

  • Safe to use alongside conventional medications

There is no single natural medication that works for all women’s menopause symptoms as each woman’s menopause is different- natural medicines need to be tailored to these individual differences.

There are several homoeopathic medicines which may be effective at relieving menopause symptoms by stimulating a natural hormone balance.  And, as ever, the choice of remedy needs to be individualised by a professional homoeopath so that the remedy fits a woman’s physical, psychological or emotional symptoms.

Research and the effectiveness of homoeopathy for perimenopause

There’s no doubt that there’s concern about the lack of scientifically backed research.

Less than 0.01% of the UK’s medical research budget is spent on homoeopathy. By the end of 2019 homoeopathic treatments were covered in 129 trials covering 77 different medical conditions. 45% were positive and 51% were inconclusive. By comparison, an analysis of 1128 review trials of conventional medicine shows strikingly similar results: 45% were positive and 45% were inconclusive.

In a 2008 observational study, ninety-nine physicians across 8 countries treated 438 women with homoeopathy for menopausal hot flushes. 99% of the women reported the disappearance or reduction of their symptoms. These changes mostly took place within 15 days of starting homoeopathic treatment, suggesting that homoeopathic treatment for hot flushes in menopausal women could be an effective natural solution.

What menopause symptoms can homeopathy treat?

Homeopath, Sarah Davison, specialises in natural menopause. Having worked in innovation consulting she witnessed the impact that stress has on women’s well-being and their hormones. Struggling with her own perimenopause, she consulted a homeopath and was so impressed with the results that she decided to retrain as a homeopath so she could help support others.

Perimenopause symptoms are common. Yet they often go unrecognised because of women’s lack of knowledge.

According to a recent study, 56% of women aged 40-50 failed to recognise their symptoms as linked to menopause, with 39% believing they were too young, and 25% simply putting their symptoms down to stress. 38% sought help from a GP, though 25% said the possibility of the symptoms being menopause-related failed to come up in the consultation.

When treating perimenopausal women some of the more common symptoms Sarah sees are:

Sarah is unusual in her approach to menopause in that in her Natural Menopause Transformation Programme she works alongside a team of other natural health & wellbeing practitioners. Between them, they use hormone testing, homeopathy, nutrition and education in all aspects of menopause self-care, from exercise to mindset, and managing relationships to mindfulness. This ensures a 100% personalised treatment together with an education that will help each woman maintain their well-being beyond the life of the programme.

So, if you wish to go through menopause naturally, homeopathy may be an effective natural solution to help restore your physical, mental, and emotional balance.

It is especially important, however, to see a professional homeopath rather than try and self-prescribe as it should be tailored to the individual.
